Selwood Equine are hosting ‘Guest Bloggers’ this year.  Giving followers of the equestrian clothing supplier a chance to become more involved with the brand.  Instagram followers will be selected at random at various points throughout the year to take part in a guest slot online showcasing themselves, their horses and their plans for 2019.  This month Selwood introduces Caitlin Whyte, a British showjumper, balancing the stress of exams and school with her love of horses and competing.

Tell us about yourself

“Hi, I am Caitlin Whyte, a showjumping rider based in the UK.  I have been lucky enough to compete at Hickstead, as well as many high end shows and championships .  I am currently still at school and doing my GCSE’s this year”.

Tell us about your horse/s

Mr Springs, aka Jasper is a 167cm Irish sports horse. I have had him since 2016. He is a fleabitten grey.  Our first show was in the summer of 2017 and we placed second.  He has a fantastic jump and is so scopey and quick on his feet.

What do you enjoy doing with your horse/s?

We compete in qualifiers, championships and nationals.  We have also done NSEA.  Pony club training also helps to enhance our performance. I train at home too using pole work to improve his way of going.

Why are horses important in your life?

I am very passionate about horses and i have always loved them.  I have been around them since i was a baby, as my mum has brought me up around them.  Jasper is my best friend and I adore him.  He is incredible.

What are your plans for 2019?

As i have exams later this year, it means that we will be doing training and competitions that are closer to home to begin with.   After my GCSE’s, we will be getting back out and competing regularly.  Thinking even further forward, after my exam results come out, it would be a dream of mine to work with horses.
